Maggie Laird is an American singer, pianist, and songwriter. Her varied professional life began as an actress with companies in Chicago and in Seattle. She currently performs in the Pacific Northwest as a soloist and with numerous notable combos and Big Bands.
According to Jim Olin of All That Jazz, "Laird's versatility, from vocal jazz to country to pop, is balanced with a soulful, sexy vocal style and stellar instrumentation from her top-drawer band." Her latest recording is a 5-song EP of originals, "One More Manhattan," recorded in Nashville. According to Stacey Zering of No Depression Magazine, "One More Manhattan vividly showcases Laird’s knife-sharp musical and artistic skills. Her ability to convey emotions in every song is a testament to her talent and experience. This EP is so captivating that one ends up having the five tracks played repeatedly."
As vocalist for the acclaimed Island Jazz Quintet, Laird brought arrangements and award-winning songs, including Who Knows, the title track of the band's third CD. Laird has written for theatre in Seattle and New York, composed for film and television, and creates recorded and live soundtracks for dancers. Her original live performances featuring her own vocals and compositions have been produced at numerous Seattle theatres and cabaret venues around the country. Recent highlights include the"BestJazz Song" award at the West Coast Songwriters competition, and a 10-song publishing deal for Blackwood/Laird, the popular Seattle band of the 80's.
Laird has finished a new single set for a summer of 2024 release, as well as appearing on a debut album by Working Class Jones, also set for a summer release.
